One of our special ministries to children is Oak Tree After School Care. We are located directly across the street from Daves Avenue Elementary School and offer after school care for students of Daves Avenue and for the children of our church. Our goal at Oak Tree has always been to provide a private and protected "home away from home" for the children of our community.

Since its inception in 1983, Oak Tree has provided a family atmosphere where children feel comfortable and safe. Mrs. Ramba (left), our Director, and Mrs. Maas, our Assistant Director, strive to maintain a warm, secure, and consistent environment where friends enjoy gathering after school.

One thing that is so important for a children's center is space. Specialists tell us that crowding and high noise levels are very stressful to a child's "adrenaline system." Since our facility is so large, there are many areas for the children to work and play. We have over two acres for outdoor play. Our creative play structure is located in a redwood grove, providing a wonderful place for creative and imaginary play. Our large lawn area is used for soccer, football, and other games, while we have a softball diamond and basketball court on the blacktop. We are very blessed to have so much (air conditioned) indoor space for the children. We have rooms, not just areas, for the various activities that we offer.

Our daily program includes art, crafts, games, puzzles, and other activities. We plan craft projects and encourage the children to enjoy the process of making items. The children are able to make their own decisions regarding their time. We encourage them to have a social fun time together because this is when they learn how to treat friends and cooperate.

We offer a very strong homework program. We have a quiet study area with staff available to spend time with each child who needs individual help with their homework.

The highlights of each year are the musicals that we put on in December for Christmas and in June at the end of the school year. These performances include children from Oak Tree, our church Sunday School, and our Awana program. With scenery, lighting, dialog, singing and choreography, these high quality productions have become highly respected in our community. Mrs. Maas spends an exhaustive amount of hours planning and directing these musicals. These opportunities to perform on a stage in front of large audiences are great confidence builders for those children that choose to participate. The children that choose not to participate still benefit from the enjoyment of the music program.

Our daily student scheduling is very flexible and we do offer drop-in care. If you are interested in Oak Tree for your student, please feel free to stop by and visit. We are open from 11:45 AM until 6:15 PM each school day.
